Save money on your energy bills by making your home more energy efficient with the Great British Insulation Scheme.

The Great British Insulation Scheme

Insulating your home prevents heat loss from your walls and roof. It is one of the best ways to reduce your energy bills. But, it is also a big upfront expense that many can’t afford.

The Great British Insulation Scheme is a new £1bn government energy-efficiency plan to help deliver installation improvements to eligible applicants. Each improvement could save homes over £300 a year. This fund aims to help around 300,000 households with free or reduced costs for home insulation.

This grant isn’t just available to low-income households. It is also designed to support homes with poor energy performance certificate (EPC) ratings who are paying out more for their heating.

Can I apply?

The scheme is open to two groups. The first helps those in properties with poor energy performance. The second supports low-income households.

To see if you qualify for either you’ll need to find out your EPC rating and council tax band first.

Poor EPC rating

To be eligible you must:

  • Be a homeowner with an EPC rating of D to G
  • Or, privately rent your home and have an EPC of D or E

And:

  • Have a council tax band of A to D (England)
  • Or, have a council tax band of A to E (Scotland and Wales)
Low-income benefits

To be eligible you must:

  • Have someone in your household in receipt of the *qualifying benefits
  • Have an EPC rating of D to G
  • Be in need of extra home insulation
